Councils criticise Oxford’s stance on Gypsies

Oxford should be ‘ashamed’ of itself for failing to find at least 42 caravan pitches during the next decade to house Gypsies and Travellers. Local councils are claiming Oxford doesn’t have room for them, having already 1,000 people waiting to be housed and with ‘no more land to spare’. A local councillor said that is why the council cannot genuinely give over pieces of land to people they are ‘not statutorily obliged to house’. The council has said it will increase the size of an existing site in Redbridge.
